Mondeo heater controls not working

So, I replaced the heater control module twice! I turn the ignition on but when I turn it off back on again the screen on the controls goes off and if I disconnect the heater control module via white and black. Heater blower not working mkmondeo titanium x, 08. The Air direction selector thing has stopped working I left it on the front demist setting for ages. Yes all the front air vents are on the one position.

People will rightly tell you to check the coolant levels, heater matrix etc but the problem I have had on all three occasions was the cable from the temperature switch not opening the valve properly. If you look on the side of the heater unit to the left of the clutch pedal you will two small cogs with a cable attached to the top one.


Use a screwdriver to fully turn the cogs and it will open.

Even though most problems with the car heater are not caused by the heater itself but by the cooling system or the thermostat, it is still possible the heater itself may be clogged or broken. Or the heater controls may be stuck or broken. In either case there is a chance of a cheap or do-it-yourself fix, as shown in the video below. If you press the heater control down, and it goes blue then the cooling should be working. If it only goes up and red than you dont have the option. I think its only a set of fans on the underside anyway.


A different reason for the heat to not work would be a lack of coolant going through the engine. This will cause plenty of other issues, but there won’t be enough coolant to sufficiently warmup.
