The Copper Ridge is a unique product that is manufactured to prevent roof moss growth. As I understand it, the point of putting the copper wire on the roof is precisely so that it does release minerals onto the roof when it rains and that this water then helps to keep the roof clean and free from moss in the future. Copper is expensive and you need lots of it, copper wire is nowhere near enough. The copper residue will corrode and damage aluminium guttering if you have it.
It also corrodes galvanised fixings and screws used on some roofs.
Copper ridge systems products are an effective way of cleaning your roof and providing an effective moss killer. Some while ago, I read on (I think) this forum that bare copper wire was a good solution to the prevention of moss growing on roofs. Well it works quite well.
